DC Unveils New Hanna-Barbera Variant Covers From Adams, Sienkiewicz And More
DC Comics’ upcoming Hanna-Barbera line of comics is one of the boldest decisions Warner Bros has made with those properties in a long time, and DC seem committed to treating the individual series as just as important as its main line of superhero books. With veteran creators like Keith Giffen on the books, DC is throwing its full weight behind the new line, and has unveiled new variant covers for Scooby Apocalypse and Future Quest by superstar artists like Steve Rude, Neal Adams and Bill Sienkiewicz.
Sienkiewicz and Rude’s covers are for the upcoming Future Quest series by Jeff Parker and Evan “Doc” Shaner, which unites all of your favorite sci-fi and fantasy themed Hanna-Barbera characters and seems to be headlined by the characters from Space Ghost and Johnny Quest.
Neal Adams and Howard Porter provide covers for Scooby Apocalypse, which is reportedly based on an original concept by Jim Lee and Keith Giffen, with Giffen and Porter heading up the book. It drops the Mystery, Inc gang in a post-apocalyptic world where nanites have ravaged the population, turning people into mutated monsters.
Also part of DC’s new line of Hanna-Barbara comics are new series’ for Wacky Races, and The Flintstones. The Flintstones seems to be a modern take on the original stone-age family written by Mark Russell, and character designs by Amanda Conner. Wacky Races Land by Ken Pontac and Leonard Manco is a bit more out there, and is set in an assumedly different post-apocalyptic world than the Scooby Doo series, and re-imagines the cartoon with a Mad Max twist, with vehicles designs by Fury Road’s Mark Sexton.
Check out the variant covers below, as well as the standard covers for Future Quest and Scooby Apocaylpse by Doc Shaner and Jim Lee.
